Prof. Philippe Aghion

Prof. Philippe Aghion, Harvard University

Philippe Aghion is a Professor at the College de France and at the London School of Economics, and a fellow of the Econometric Society and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the economics of growth. With Peter Howitt, he pioneered the so-called Schumpeterian Growth paradigm which was subsequently used to analyze the design of growth policies and the role of the state in the growth process. Much of this work is summarized in their joint books Endogenous Growth Theory (MIT Press, 1998) and The Economics of Growth (MIT Press, 2009), in his book with Rachel Griffith on Competition and Growth (MIT Press, 2006), and in his survey “What Do We Learn from Schumpeterian Growth Theory” (joint with U. Akcigit and P. Howitt.) In 2001, Philippe Aghion received the Yrjo Jahnsson Award of the best European economist under age 45, and in 2009 he received the John Von Neumann Award.

Dr Jane Davidson

Dr Jane Davidson, University of Wales Trinity Saint David

Dr Jane Davidson is Pro Vice-Chancellor for External Engagement and Sustainability at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David which is on a journey to embed sustainability throughout the university’s culture, campus and curriculum. Jane has won a number of UK wide awards for this work. From 2007- 2011, Jane was Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing in Wales where she proposed legislation to make sustainable development its central organising principle – the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act came into law in April 2015. She created a Welsh Climate Change Commission and Future Generations Commissioner, the 800 mile Wales coastpath, legislated on waste which has seen Wales become the lead recycling country in Britain and introduced the Welsh charge on carrier bags. From 2000 – 2007, Jane was Minister of Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills in Wales. She introduced major curriculum changes – the Foundation Phase and the Welsh Baccalaureate and integrated Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship into the Welsh curriculum. Jane is a patron of the Chartered Institute for Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and Tools for Self Reliance Wales (TFSR Cymru). She holds honorary fellowships from CIW (Chartered Institute of Waste), CIWEM (Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management) and is a member of WWF’s UK Council of Ambassadors. She is Chair of the RSA in Wales and has recently been invited onto the faculty in Harvard University.

Mr Robert Owen Humphreys

Mr Robert Owen Humphreys, The Open University in Wales

Rob Humphreys was Director of The Open University in Wales from 2007 to 2017. The Open University offers part-time higher education via internet-based distance learning and is the largest university in the United Kingdom, measured by student numbers. During Rob’s leadership of the Open University in Wales its undergraduate part-time market share in Wales increased by around 40%, moving from third place to first place amongst providers of part-time HE for adults. He has recently been appointed by the Welsh Government to the Council of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales – the body that regulates and funds universities in Wales. He has twice been elected by University leaders in Wales to the post of Vice Chair of the sector-wide body, Universities Wales.

Mr. Dilip Parajuli

Mr. Dilip Parajuli, World Bank

Dilip Parajuli is a Senior Education Economist with the Education Global Practice in the East Asia and Pacific Region of the World Bank. He is based on Hanoi and is the cluster leader for the World Bank’s Vietnam education program, which currently includes both financing and advisory services across general education, higher education and science and technology sectors. Dilip has 15 years of operational, analytical and policy dialogue experience and has worked across diverse education issues, including school and teacher management, school financing, learning assessments and M&E, results-based programming, and demand-side interventions on equity in education. He has task-managed lending operations, impact evaluations, public expenditure tracking survey (PETS) study, preparation of the country education strategy notes, economic analysis of education investments, and cross-sectoral inequality studies. Dilip has an undergraduate and a graduate degree in development economics, both from Harvard University.

Prof. Pham Duy Nghia

Pham Duy Nghia, Fulbright Economic Teaching Program

Courses taught at FETP Law and Public Policy, Public Governance, Research Methods of Public Policy Education, Fulbright Visiting Scholar, Harvard Law School (2002-2003), PhD. Leipzig, Germany (1991), LLB. Leipzig, Germany (1988), Professional Associations Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC /VCCI), Vietnam Lawyers Association (VLA). Professor Pham Duy Nghia graduated at Leipzig University (Germany). At FETP he teaches Law and Public Governance, Public Policy and Research Methods of Public Policy. He has published a number of text books and journal articles on legal and governance issues. His recent research focuses on good governance, including perspectives how to enhance the people’s participation in policy making and to enhance the efficiency, transparency and accountability of government. Pham Duy Nghia is a frequent commentator inleading newspaper and media in Vietnam. The areas concerned include protection of basic citizen’s right, voice and accountability in public governance, regulatory quality, rule of law and acess to justice.

Dr. Anna-Klara Lindeborg

Dr. Anna-Klara Lindeborg, Division for International Coordination

Anna-Klara Lindeborg is currently working as Chief Representative at Uppsala University’s regional office in Vietnam. This Swedish University has had a representative office in Hanoi since 2014 with the purpose of developing cooperation with Vietnamese Universities within higher education and research. The office also puts high priority in trying to recruit potential Vietnamese students to Sweden, as well as coordinating their activities with other Swedish Universities in Vietnam. Anna-Klara has previously been working as a project manager at the Division of Quality Enhancement at Uppsala University focusing on quality assurance within the PhD program as well as internationalisation. Prior to that she was working as a lecturer at the department of Social and Economic Geography, teaching on both undergraduate, master and PhD level. Anna-Klara has also coordinated and evaluated different projects related to  internationalisation in higher education and research. Anna-Klara completed her PhD thesis in October 2012 at the department of Social and Economic Geography, Uppsala University with the title Where Gendered Spaces Bend; the Rubber Phenomenon in Northern Laos.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thi Thu Giang

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thi Thu Giang , Foreign Trade University

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thi Thu Giang has been a Vice President of Foreign Trade University since 2010. Main research interest: economics, accounting and university governance. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thi Thu Giang has been a lead researcher and coresearcher of several research projects commissioned by the national state or ministries, such as: “University governance – International experiences and a suitable model for public universities in Vietnam”, Ministry of Education and Training, 2016; “A study into measures for export and import of Vietnam’s higher education”, Ministry of Education and Training, 2010; among others. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thi Thu Giang has published several articles in Vietnamese and international specialist journals, focusing on the following topics: autonomy in higher education, university governance, finance management in higher education, opportunities of and challenges to the public higher educational institutions that are piloting the new governance and operational mechanisms under the Government Resolution No. 77/NQ-CP. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thi Thu Giang has published a number of monographs and academic books on higher education, such as: “University governance in Australia and lessons for Vietnam” (co-author, Finance Publishing House, 2015), “Experiences in governance of public universities in some countries in the world” (co-author, Hanoi Polytechnics Publishing House, 2016), etc.

Prof. Nguyen Duc Khuong

Prof. Nguyen Duc Khuong, IPAG Business School

Dr. Duc Khuong Nguyen holds a MSc and a PhD in Finance from the University of Grenoble Alpes (France) and obtains his HDR (Habilitation for Supervising Doctoral Research) in Management Sciences in June 2009. He also completed the "Leaders in Development" program at Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Executive Education (2013). In January 2013, he joined IPAG Business School as Professor of Finance and Deputy Director for Research. Previously, he served as Professor of Finance and Head of the Department of Finance and Information Systems at ISC Paris Business School, as Lecturer at Grenoble Graduate Institute of Business, and as Research and Teaching Assistant at EM Lyon Business School. Dr. Nguyen is also a Non-Resident Research Fellow at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University, a Visiting Professor at Vietnam National University, Hanoi - International School and was a Research Associate at the Department of Finance, Centre d'Economie de la Sorbonne (CES), University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (2011-2015). His principal research areas concern emerging markets finance, energy finance, volatility modeling and risk management in international capital markets. His most recent articles are forthcoming and published in refereed journals such as European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Forecasting, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Macroeconomics, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Macroeconomic Dynamics, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, Review of International Economics, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, and World Economy.
